Colin Druce, Repetiteur
|
|
Colin Druce was born and educated in North Wales. He studied piano and organ
at
Chester Cathedral and later at the Birmingham Conservatoire, where
he won the
BMI Organ Competition and the Ludlow Philharmonic Concerto
Competition. He has
since appeared at many of the country's leading
concert venues as organist or
pianist.
In addition to concerto performances, Colin is also committed to the duo
TUBA
MAGNA (trumpet and organ). He has performed at numerous music
festivals, at the
Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and at concerts in
Budapest and the Czech
Republic, and has given recitals at Liverpool
Cathedral and St Paul's
Cathedral. He has broadcast frequently for
radio and television from venues
that include Bristol, Manchester,
Chipping Campden and Warwick.
Colin Druce was organist for the International Church Choir Festival
at
Coventry Cathedral in 1999 and 2000, and in Spring 2002 was an
adjudicator for the Hong Kong Music Festival, the largest music festival in the
world with over 130,000 entries. He has been the Society's répétiteur
and rehearsal accompanist since September 1999: he also takes
sectional rehearsals and occasionally deputises for the conductor.
As well as accompanying the choir on the organ in many performances,
Colin has been a soloist in a number of the Society's concerts. In
addition to many performances of major organ works, he has also
performed the Greig Piano Concerto, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 21 in
A major and most recently Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto in G minor.
Colin
has a large private teaching practice, and he also teaches for
The Kings High School for Girls, Warwick and King Henry VIII
School, Coventry. He also works regularly at Warwick University,
notably playing the organ for their degree ceremonies and
providing piano accompaniment for scholarship and bursary
auditions, as well as the annual concerto competition.
