Staging and Seating Preparation
Volunteers to assist with the erection of staging and seating are requested to be at the church at 12 o'clock please.
Saturday Afternoon Rehearsal
There will be a rehearsal with the orchestra and soloists on the Saturday afternoon of the concert.
Please arrive at 1.45pm for a prompt 2pm start.
Seating Arrangements
Seats allocated to each voice will be indicated as usual by cards on the seats showing S1, S2, A1 etc. Anyone
unable to attend the pre-concert rehearsal should inform Roger Cragg or the concert master and also someone
in their voice section to ensure that a seat is left available for them. Please do not remove any coloured stickers from the seats
as they indicate the area of the church from which the seats have been taken.
Please make sure that you know who you are sitting with on either side in your row so that you can line up
correctly to come onto the platform in the evening.
At the Start of the Concert
When everyone is in position, a signal will be given and singers will then file onto the platform in the prescribed order.
Carry your score in a folder but please do not take water bottles onto the platform.
When everyone is standing in position, a signal will be given for the choir to SIT.
When the conductor and soloists enter, the choir will STAND if we sing at the start of the first work.
For all subsequent 'sits' and 'stands', a nominated choir member will act as 'leader'. Please watch carefully.
During the Concert
During the performance 'sits' and 'stands' will be in accordance with the instructions issued by the conductor.
Please stand and sit as quietly as possible.
At the end of each work remain standing (unless already seated). The conductor will acknowledge the applause
and will also acknowledge the choir. The conductor and soloists will then leave. Taking our cue from the
orchestra leader, the choir will SIT.
At the interval remain seated until the applause has finished. On a signal, the choir will stand
and file out row by row in reverse order.
At the end of the 20 minute interval (signified by the ringing of a bell) the choir will line up and move
onto the plaform as at the start of the concert. When everyone is standing in position, a signal will
be given for the choir to SIT.
When the conductor and soloists enter, the choir will STAND if we sing at the start of the next work.
At the End of the Concert
When the music has finished the choir will REMAIN STANDING. The conductor will acknowledge the applause
and will also acknowledge the choir. The conductor and soloists will then leave. Taking our cue from the
orchestra leader or from the front, the choir will SIT.
The conductor and soloists will then re-enter, the choir REMAINING SEATED until called to stand by the conductor.
If choir members wish to applaud the soloists, then please only do so when the choir is seated. The choir
will remain standing when the conductor and soloists leave, again taking our cue to SIT from the
orchestra leader or from the front.
This procedure will be repeated as many times as the conductor feels necessary.
Finally, the choir will stand and file out row by row in reverse order on a signal from the front.
After the Concert
Please make sure that all hired music copies are placed in the boxes provided.
Volunteers to assist with the removal of seating and the staging will be much appreciated.
